ABOUT TRUCK
With the utmost respect and humility, TRUCK Contemporary Art acknowledges that we are situated in the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in "Southern Alberta": the homeland of the Blackfoot Nations, (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, the Iyarhe Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations), and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Battle River Territory, Calgary Elbow Métis District 6. We want to honour and respect these nations, their living history, and the land that they have cared for since time immemorial.
First opening in 1983 as the Second Story Art Society, TRUCK Contemporary Art is a non-profit artist resource centre and gallery in Mohkinstis (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) run by a small team of dedicated artists who believe art is an innate feature of humanity that should be available and accessible to all. We prioritize working with artists to coordinate the creation and public presentation of contemporary art, as well as host art-making events, workshops, markets, and the occasional party.
Our mission is to engage our local community in critical discourse surrounding contemporary art, and to bring together and support creative individuals who share aspirations of increasing access to art for all.
We believe strongly in the importance of considering and caring for one another, as people and creators, and we pursue in our work an ambition to nourish the sincerity and connection we wish to see blossom in our communities. Our endeavour is to connect artists to the resources they need to create, exhibit, and share their work.
With accessibility as one of our core values, TRUCK is committed to maintaining free admission to all of our programs, and creating better access to contemporary art and art practices whenever possible.
